John Peel's Music On BFBS #2

The tape ends with John's sign-off ("Write early and write often") and a sig which predates the Johnny Fortune track used throughout the 90s. Many thanks to the taper.

We discover that, though our John's musical tastes were not mainstream, his choice of films definitely was, recommending as he does two films directed by John Landis. JP has just returned from a holiday in Crete. Pursuant to a listener request, he plays an "oldie" (released the previous year!) from the Pogues, and follows that up with a real (1978) oldie from Shane MacGowan's previous band. Many thanks to the taper.
- Dawn Chorus & The Blue Tits: 'Teenage Kicks (7")' (Stiff)
- Jane Bond & The Undercovermen: 'Politically Correct (LP-Politically Correct)' (Normal)
- (JP: 'Several letters from malcontents saying that the last time I tried to play the Inca Babies' 'The Interior' I played something completely different, and then said it was the Inca Babies' 'The Interior.' I apologise for that. This is...')
- Inca Babies: 'The Interior (7")' (Black Lagoon)
- (JP: 'I think we've got the right one this time, I must say.')
- Triffids: 'Monkey On My Back (12"-Field Of Glass)' (Hot)
- Aretha Franklin: 'Think (Compilation LP-The Blues Brothers (Original Soundtrack Recording))' (Atlantic)
- (JP: 'Even our Charles, it turns out, has never seen The Blues Brothers, and I recommend that he and everybody else goes to see it. The second best film ever made, I suppose, after Animal House. I know most people prefer to go and see Polish film festivals with subtitles in Korean or something that's really difficult, but not me. I just like a good yarn, frankly.')
- Les Calamités: 'Teach Me How To Shimmy (LP-The Calamities)' (Posh Boy)
- Age Of Chance: 'Motor City (7")' (Riot Bible)

- Red Lorry Yellow Lorry: 'Chance (12")' (Red Rhino)
- Pogues: 'Boys From The County Hell (7")' (Stiff)
- Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle: 'Dancing In The Dawn (LP-Goes Underground)' (Zickzack)
