Sound Africa is a homegrown podcast organisation passionate about producing original audio content that upends the weary clichés we’ve become accustomed to in the coverage of Africa. We seek out the untold and obscure, go beyond surface-level coverage of big events, and shed light on matters of public interest without losing sight of the human interest. In doing so we aim to amplify African voices through the power of digital audio and the internet.

We’re a collective of journalists, mediamakers and radio lovers with a passion for social transformation and inspired by the “theatre of the mind”. Over the last five years or so podcasting or the “ audio revolution” has had it’s moment across the globe. While there are some really great podcasts popping up throughout the country and across the country, we envision a thriving, dynamic local podcast industry.

Radio has always played a revolutionary role on the African content, it has been an integral way of communicating for many social movements and in organising, this is evident when looking at the powerful trajectory community radio in South Africa and the rest of the continent has today. We believe that the local podcasting scene has the power and potential to honour and further this legacy. As an organisation we focus on four pillars to achieve this vision.

Socially engaged networks, embodied interactions, collaborative esoteric poetics: a series of nomadic conversations about society, creativity, technology and the future with host Jodi Rose.
