We are happy to present in the NomadicRadio SESSION 26 sonorities outcomes created in the context of the course 'Making sense of culture(s) through art' held in the winter semester 2022-23, part of the X-research group organized by Melanie Garland and Persefoni Myrtsou supported by Berlin Alliance University.
The sonorities outcomes of the five students you will listen to are a rich, multifaceted theoretical and practical contribution to reflect on the value and potential of artistic practices in social science research. They are re-writing aspects of the dialogue between art and anthropology.
In the first minutes Dominik Biewer, guided by sound physics and its resonant perception, explores listening to a Seashell as a mediation of an embodied, multisensory and imaginative engagement. Following, Setenay Kızılkaya's track is a Turkish Master's student's first reflection on the German academic system based on her experiences and interactions with several academics working in the humanities and social sciences field. The third track is from Ayesha Shabbir, which weaves in multilingual snippets from interviews of her friends and family with her narration to understand women's connection with their grandmothers. Following, Luise Haubenreiser offers glimpses of intimate moments and conversations recorded by strangers in their homes while reflecting on the transformative power of sound and its evocative qualities. In closing, Lena Pozdnyakova explores the component of working with textiles as a form of sound procedural ritual, temporal dimension, and the character of the feminized hands-on work and crafts practices in Central Asia.
