This months show looks at the thorny topic of polyrhythm. We talk about and listen to music that contain rhythmic complexity from all over the world, throughout history, in both traditional and modern forms and how one influenced the other. We also look at how the various publics reacted to this from the socio-cultural reaffirmation and disquiet that was sometimes caused in others by veering from rhythmic simplicity and led to outbursts of violence and civil unrest.
