« WINGS: » Women’s International News Gathering Service: COVID in Kenya #36
WINGS: Women’s International News Gathering Service is an all-woman independent radio production company that produces and distributes news and current affairs programs by and about women around the world. An award-winning, weekly half hour radio program by and about women around the world.
“Raising Women’s Voices through Radio Worldwide” since 1986.
Measures taken by the Kenyan government to stop the spread of COVID include imposing a curfew, travel bans, and closing schools. But they've provided no income supplements for small business and workers in the informal sector. Problems to solve include food scarcity, how families make a living, large numbers of idle men, and an increase in sexual violence and "defilement" of girls. Adhiambo gives examples of actions NGOs are taking to help.
Host(s): Diana Wanyonyi and Frieda Werden. Featured Speakers/Guests: Eunice Adhiambo is Programs officer of the Levite Foundation. Her job is managing economic development projects, mainly with women, on the south coast of Kenya.
