Raphaelle Muller. Winding All Sheets Of The Dead World Droning hypothesizes a potential not so-far-future time of our biosphere set after extinction, where autonomous weapons have survived humanity and thrive by self-replication. The navigation in that specific time frame is shaped by evolving loops that transition in the vibrant space between molecules and the indistinct reminiscence of humanity, in an attempt to reconnect with the spirits of our ancestors and extinct species. This work explores the relationship between form and freedom, full of synthetic experimentalisms and references to some earthly, organic matter. Raphaëlle Mueller’s often otherworldly creations explore fitting themes of material agency, animism, mystical anarchism, hyper technology & the Anthropocene.

Cameos : Christophe Rault (peniche) Chloe Despax (again) « The chords behave » Herb Levy - A Theory of Harmony. « The river » est une histoire où les personnages sont des accords (rapports harmoniques). Ils n'ont ni nom ni genre et la seule façon de les évoquer est d’évoquer et d'entendre la relation correspondante entre les fréquences. L'histoire est celle d'un voyage nocturne sur une péniche le long d'une rivière mystérieuse. Le fleuve est aussi la frontière entre deux royaumes opposés et il est peuplé de souvenirs, de brouillard et de rêves allégoriques. L'histoire est répétée deux fois, dans la première itération il s'agit d'une énonciation très simple de l'histoire où des accords ponctuent la narration chaque fois qu'un de ces êtres sonores est évoqué. Dans la seconde itération, les accords prolongent leur durée, ils ne sont pas seulement les personnages de l'histoire mais deviennent aussi le paysage, la toile émotionnelle et la géographie harmonique où le récit se déroule. « The river » est un étude sur l'harmonie. Le protagoniste est un accord de septième mineur en accordage juste ( 1/1 3/3 7/4, septième harmonique). Il est accompagné de deux triades plus étranges — 13th limit — ( 1/1 16/13 3/2 et 19/16 3/2 27/16 ) tandis qu'un autre personnage mystérieux ( une tierce majeure en accordage juste 1/1 5/4 3/2 -, en quelque sorte un alter ego du protagoniste ) a manqué le rendez-vous et est souvent remémoré. La distribution complète de l'histoire comprend 26 personnages appartenant tous à des temperaments différents. L'inspiration vient de l'observation des univers allégoriques et d'architectures mnémoniques tels que décrits par Giordano Bruno ou Giulio Camillo Delmino en correspondance avec l'idée que des êtres purement sonores - comme les rapports harmoniques - pourraient vivre une vie propre dans de tels univers. Elle s'inscrit dans une recherche plus large sur ce que j'aime appeler "une histoire sentimentale des intervalles" et reflète ma fascination pour l'harmonie musicale en tant que force capable de mobiliser des émotions profondes et de nous mouvoir. Même si les accords vivent leur vie dans un monde sonore et mathématique qui leur est propre, ils sont capables de toucher profondément les émotions et les comportements humaines, même si les accords et les humains n'habitent pas la même dimension. La fascination pour les arts alchimiques, combinatoires et mnémoniques de la renaissance et de la post-renaissance s'accompagne de la sensation frustrante qu'ils "ne fonctionnent plus". Une partie de cette tradition s'est lentement métamorphosée en science expérimentale et a donné naissance à la technologie moderne. Les mots science et magie se sont séparés l'un de l'autre et la magie a été en quelque sorte archivée comme étant inefficace. Pourtant, une certaine porosité entre les deux domaines — comme c'est le cas des deux royaumes évoqués dans « The river » — n'a jamais cessé d'exister. « The chords behave » Herb Levy - A Theory of Harmony. « The river » is a story where the characters are chords (harmonic ratios). They do not have a name or a gender and the only way to evoke them is by recalling and hearing the corresponding relation between frequencies. The story is about a nightly trip on a barge along a mysterious river. The river is also the frontier between two opposite kingdoms and it’s populated by memories, fog and allegoric dreams. The story is repeated two times, in the first iteration is a very simple enunciation of the story where chords punctuate the narration each time one of such sonorous beings is evoked. In the second iteration chords extend their duration, they are not only the characters of the story but also become the landscape, the emotional canvas and the harmonic geography where the story takes place. « The river » It’s a study on harmony. The the protagonist is a just intoned minor seventh chord ( 1/1 3/2 7/4, seventh harmonic). Travelling with him are two weirder 13th limit triads ( 1/1 16/13 3/2 and 19/16 3/2 27/16 ) while an other mysterious character ( a just intoned major third, 1/1 5/4 3/2 -, somehow an alter ego of the protagonist ) has missed the appointment and is often thought about. The complete cast of the story includes 26 characters all belonging to different tuning systems. The inspiration comes from the observation of allegorical universes and mnemonic architectures as described by Giordano Bruno or Giulio Camillo Delmino and its matched with the idea that purely sonorous beings - like harmonic ratios - could live a life of their own in such universes. It’s inscribed into a larger research on what I like to call “a sentimental history of intervals” and reflects my fascination for musical harmony as a force capable of moving deep emotions. Even if chords live their life into a sonorous and mathematical world of their own they are capable of profoundly moving human emotions and behaviors even if chords and humans do not inhabit the same dimension. The fascination for renaissance and post renaissance alchemical, combinatory and mnemonic arts comes with the frustrating sensation of them “not working anymore”. A part of that tradition slowly metamorphosed into experimental science and gave birth to modern technology. The words science and magic parted from each other and magic was somehow archived as ineffective. Still, a certain porosity between the two realms — as it is the case with the two realms evoked in « The river » — never ceased existing.
