L’Animal Autobiographique part 1 - Month of Performance Art Special
How to speak Derrida? This collective reading takes its starting point from the ten-hour long lecture held in 1997 by Jacques Derrida at the conference “L’animal autobiographique” in Cerisy, France. His contribution was published in 2006 under the title “The Animal That Therefore I Am.” It focuses on the line of separation drawn between humans and the millions of other species that are reduced to a single word, the “animal.” Derrida’s autobiographical theme intersects with its philosophical analysis through the figures of looking, nakedness and suffering. The opening scene of this reading is framed by Derrida's experience of standing naked in the morning, held by his cat's gaze. The text will be divided among twenty-two readers and the ten-hour long performance will be live streamed.
