« Ad Libitum » Zeitgenössischen klassischen Musik: Episode 2 of the Small Room Berlin Series
Smallroom is a Berlin-based ensemble founded in 2015 by director and horn player Georgia Ioakimidis-MacDougall. The group presents site-specific projects which move freely between notated music, improvisation and installation works. The core members have a variety of experience in composition, improvisation and playing challenging notated solo and chamber works. In 2016, Smallroom collaborated with a number of composers including Nicoletta Chatzopoulou (Greece) and Liza Lim (Australia) to present programs in both iconic and unconventional performance spaces. These presentations are grown from a specific theme or aesthetic, and are designed with careful attention to the spatial, dramaturgical and narrative elements. Throughout February, Ad Libitum will feature four of these concerts:
1. Her Song: Smallroom worked with Nicoleta Chatzopoulou (Greece) to present an evening of acoustic and electronic works at Expedition Metropolis on the 23rd of February, 2016.
2. She is stilled, the river is stilled, she is the river: Liza Lim (Australia) featured in this installation style presentation of her solo works at Villa Elisabeth on June 22, 2016.
3. As three, as two, as one: Callum G’Froerer (trumpet), Jonathan Heilbron (bass) and Bernardo Alviz (bass) presented an evening of improvised and notated solos, duos and trios at Mount of Olives Church. 12 June, 2016.
4. Georg Friedrich Haas’ String Quartet # 3 in iij. Noct.
Kontraklang presented Smallroom playing Georg Friedrich Haas’s third string Quartet quartet as part of ‘'Darkness, Body Movements and Constructions” on September 14, 2016. Other artists included Anette Krebbs and Yan Jun.
